Big Tex gives a hand to all his fans!

Since the mid-morning fire that destroyed Big Tex on the final Friday of the 2012 season, Fair officials (and Big Tex) have received numerous inquiries concerning the return of Big Tex. Many of those contacting the Fair want to make a donation and a fund has been established and may be accessed on bigtex.com. The total from private donations has exceeded $45,000.

Big Tex wants to give a hand to all his fans and express appreciation for the cards, letters, e-mails, and donations. In 212 days, he’ll return to his official duty as the host of the greatest Fair in the nation. Until then, Fair officials want to take you behind-the-scenes to look at the (re)building of an icon. Fans are speaking loud and clear that they want Big Tex to return as the gentle giant who served faithfully for six decades.

The design process includes the rebuilding of his head and features, body structure, boots, clothes, and his hands. The first step in the rebuild requires creating a 3-D model. Sneak a peek at the design process involved in bringing back Big Tex’s hand. 3-D animation of Big Tex’s hand http://youtu.be/i46awGblOnY

Big Tex will be unveiled on opening day, September 27, 2013. He really is “The One & Only” – engineers and designers are working non-stop to return him to the State Fair of Texas.
